In an address to the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington, President Barack Obama stated that the United States "will not hesitate" to use military action against Iran if it keeps pursuing a path toward developing nuclear weapons, though there are still other options on the table. The US and its allies believe that Iran is planing to use its nuclear program for military purposes, a charge that Tehran denies. Speculation is mounting that Israel may carry out a pre-emptive strike against Iran rather than run the risk of it acquiring nuclear capabilities. President Obama is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Israel's President, Shimon Peres, was quoted as saying that Iran was a "evil, corrupt regime" and "a danger to the world". The International community has tried to respond in a more diplomatic manner. The United States has been tightening sanctions and the EU recently imposed an oil embargo. Iran stands by its claim that it is developing a peaceful nuclear program.
Conclusion
In a meeting with the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, a powerful Israeli lobby group, President Obama said that while it may be necessary for the US to use force against Iran to curb its nuclear activities, diplomacy is not out of the question. The United States is trying to deter Iran with sanctions and the EU has an oil embargo in place. Iran denies that it is attempting to build nuclear weapons.
