Main Ideas
President Barak Obama announced in a ABC news interview on Wednesday, that he supports same-sex marriage. He is the first president in history to openly say "I support same-sex marriage". After he finished the interview many political leaders in San Francisco applauded Obama's statement. San Francisco governor Jerry Brown said "Equality before the law is a pillar of American democracy". Although many people agree with Obama, the legalization of same-sex marriage is still in the hands of the states. But it is important for states to know that the president fully supports the idea of same-sex marriage. The fact that the president of the United States can go on the record about such an important topic really shows his courage and dedication to important topics. Obama also address the difference between 'Marriage' and 'Civil Unions'. He points out how when 2 two people are in a civil union they are not properly treated as citizens. They do not receive the same benefits as people who are in marriages.
Conclusion
In conclusion someone in politics has decided to take a stand for same-sex marriage. Obama has rallied much support from San Francisco's political leaders such as Jerry Brown, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and so many more. Obama has the power to sway many people options and ideas about important topics. I think that the president will really be able to succeed with this movement for equality.
