"Dear Leader's" Funeral

The tyrannical dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-il, recently died in his home in the capitol of North Korea, Pyongyang.  The North Korean government reported his cause of death as "over working".  The aging tyrant's health has been on the decline for quite some time now.  In recent pictures he has been seen as weak and frail so it is not a very large surprise that he as passed away.  Earlier in the week his funeral procession was held in the snowy Pyongyang streets.  The entire population of the city, and many people from other cities, were present in the streets, and as the "Dear Leader's" funeral caravan drove hysteria began to spread in the normally quiet streets.  The procession was led by the dictator's son and successor, Kim Jong-un.

I find it very strange that the people were so sad and hysterical at his death. The people of North Korea have a very strange relationship with their old leader, Kim Jong-il.  During his reign North Korean's have experienced food shortages, long blackouts, and a terrible standard of living.  But somehow he still managed to endear himself in the hearts and minds of nearly all of his people.

  2. I think the reason why North Koreans are so upset over Kim Jong Il's death is because they were brainwashed. Sure, the people suffered, but they were probably going to be punished if they did not show emotion at his death. North Korea may be rid of Kim Jong Il but it has not yet been rid of its communist government. I wonder what he was 'over-working' about, if that was actually the cause of his death.

  3. The North Korean government stated that the reason Kim Jong-il, died is because he was working too hard. This makes it so his death was for the North Korean people. A strange form of propaganda. The entire procession was attended by mourning North Koreans. People speculate that the government required people to mourn. The over exaggeration of the mourning from the people can be seen on some videos online.

  4. In North Korea, Kim Jong Il is treated on the same level as a god. Any mistakes he made during his rule are entirely disregarded because of this fact. Especially considering that the government reported his death as"overworking" really shows how far their propaganda goes. Also, the future of North Korea does not seem too bright either because Kim Jong Un was sheltered from everything outside of North Korea until only recently.

  5. The people of North Korea found their former leader's death, Kim Jong-il, unbearable resulting in emotional outbreaks and uncontrollable feelings of fear. Yes, it is true that under Kim Jong-il's reign there were food shortages, long blackouts, and a poor standard of living, but the people valued their leader over their own lives. People feared the wrath of the government and the aftermath of his death, they were fearful of what might happen because Kim Jong-il is all they knew. They gave him credit and praise for their lives and everything they had. An example of this is when a doctor from the US was permitted into North Korea to replace lenses of those that are blinded by a cloud of dirt making those people unable to see. When the operation was finished, they people did not even think about thanking the doctor, they immediately bowed down to a picture of Kim Jong-il and thanked him for their miracles. It will be difficult for Kim Jong Un to follow in his father's foot steps in winning over the people of North Korea because of his confined life in Korea.
